Questions parents ask

Straight answers on safety, data, and how BespokeTales works.

Why do you charge $1.99before I can even enter my child's name?

That's COPPA — the U.S. children's privacy law — working as intended. Before we collect anything about a child, we must verify that a parent is the one consenting. A small, real card transaction is an FTC-recognized way to do that. We didn't want it to feel like a fee, so the $1.99 verification includes your first full book.

Is my child's photo safe?

Photos are optional. If you share one, it is used to create your child's illustrated avatar, stored securely, and never shared or used to train anything. You can review and delete it at any time from Settings.

What data do you collect, and can I delete it?

Only what stories need: first name, age, interests, and the optional photo — always after parent verification, never from the child directly. Settings gives you a full review of everything we hold and one-click deletion of profiles or your entire account. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

Can my child's friends be in the stories?

Yes — as described characters. You tell us a friend has curly hair and a green bike, and the illustrator takes it from there. We don't accept photos of children outside your household, so no other parent's consent is ever needed.

What ages is this for?

Roughly 4–11. Reading level adapts per child, and curriculum stories align to K-5 standards (Oregon today, more states coming).

What's your refund policy?

Unused book credits are refundable on request, including a prorated refund for partially used packs. If a book fails to generate, the credit returns to your balance automatically. The $1.99 verification itself is non-refundable because it doubles as your first book and as the legal record of parent consent.
