Share by link
Send a finished book to someone far away as a private link and a password. They read the whole book, read aloud too if it has a narration, with no account and nothing to install.
How to do it
- In your Library, find a finished book and press the share button under it (the little arrow of dots). On a phone, tap the book first, then the share button in the window that opens.
- The first time, set one sharing password. It covers every book you share, so you only set it once. Bix suggests one made of short, easy words you can read out over the phone. Keep it or type your own (at least 6 characters), then press Save sharing password.
- On a laptop the link is copied for you, ready to paste into a message or an email. On a phone your own share menu opens, so you can pick WhatsApp, Messages or anything else.
- Tell them the password separately, by a call or a different message, so the link alone never opens the book.
What they see
The link opens a page that says A private story was shared with you. They type the password and press Open the book. If they tick Keep this book unlocked on this device, they will not need the password again on that phone or tablet.
They see only that one book, never the rest of your shelf, and they cannot change anything. On the last page there is a Make one with Bix button. It works like your invite link: if they join through it and finish the parent check, you each get a free book.
Stopping sharing
Go to Account and find Private book sharing:
- Open Shared books to see every book you have shared, and press Stop sharing next to any of them. Its link stops working straight away.
- Turn off all sharing stops every link at once.
- Someone asked for the password again? Press Reveal to see it.
- Change sharing password sets a new one. Everyone you have shared with will need the new password, so tell them.
