Pick the artwork

Choose the look of the pictures, book by book, from warm watercolour to bold comic action.

What it is

The look of the pictures is chosen per book, and it is never tied to a child or to a profile. Today the tiles offer painted realism, watercolour, soft pastel, smooth digital, bold cartoon and action comic. Each tile shows one scene drawn that way, so the only thing differing between them is the style itself.

What it is for

The look is what decides whether a book gets picked up at all. A child who slides straight past soft watercolour will read an action comic to the last page, and the same story sits happily inside either. Because the choice belongs to the book rather than to the reader, a quiet one and a loud one can live on one shelf without either becoming the house look.

How to use it

  1. Tap New Adventure and go to Look, the fourth step along the top.
  2. Compare the tiles under Art Style. Each shows the same scene drawn that way, so the comparison is a fair one.
  3. Tap a tile to choose it, and a tick appears in its corner.
  4. Watch the book so far panel on a wide screen, which swaps to the style you just tapped.
  5. Change it freely on the next book. The choice is stored on the book, never on the child.

What we suggest

Let the child choose this one. It is the only decision in the flow they can judge without reading anything, and the tiles put every option in front of them at once. Nothing here is automatic: the picker opens on painted realism, which carries most stories and every age, and it stays there until somebody taps another tile.
