Anywhere real in the world
The Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, the park at the end of your street. Type any real place in the world and the story happens there, among landmarks that actually exist.
What it is
The Location box takes any real place on earth, not only the one you live in. A city, a town, a national park, the museum at the end of your road. You can pick one of the invented settings instead, such as Deep Ocean or Robot City, or leave the place to Bix.
What it is for
A child reads a street differently once it has been in a book. The corner shop, the bridge they cross every week, the park they know the smell of: putting a story there is the surest way to make it theirs. Somewhere they have never been does the opposite job just as well, and a book is a way of going first.
How to use it
- Tap New Adventure and go to Scene, the third step along the top.
- Type a city, town or landmark into the Location box, then choose from the list that drops down.
- Tap an invented setting instead, such as Pirate Seas or Cloud Kingdom, for a place that is on no map.
- Tap Let Bix choose to leave the setting open.
- Read how each idea starts at the Ideas step; it names the corner of that place the story centres on. The Location tag beside it repeats the place you typed.
What we suggest
Start where they live. The first time a familiar corner turns into a story is the thing they tell people about. Go somewhere far for the book after that. Each idea you are offered centres on a different part of the place you name, and a landmark used recently is passed over, so one museum does not end up carrying every story.
