You choose the story first

A few story ideas arrive first, always different kinds of tale. Nothing is drawn until you pick one.

What it is

Before a word is written or a page is drawn, the Ideas step offers a few story ideas. Each carries a title, how the story starts, what is at stake, who is in it, and the picks behind it: genre, telling, place and topic. They are deliberately different kinds of tale rather than one story told over again. The chapters are planned after you choose, as the first step of making the book.

What it is for

This is the step that makes the rest of the flow safe to guess at. Leave the genre, the telling and the place to Bix, see what those choices actually turn into, and change your mind before anything is spent. A book nobody wanted is the expensive kind of surprise, and this is where it gets caught.

How to use it

  1. Tap New Adventure and work through to Ideas, the last step along the top.
  2. Read each card: the title, how the story starts, what is at stake, who is in it, and the facts underneath.
  3. Compare the tinted facts, which are the ones Bix chose, against the plain ones, which are yours.
  4. Tap Back to change the genre, the telling or the place if none of the ideas is right.
  5. Tap Start this story on the card you want. Only then is a book credit spent.

What we suggest

Read what is at stake before you read the title. A title can sound good and still promise a small story, and the stakes are where that shows first. If none of the cards is right, going back and changing a single setting costs you no credit.
