Kid Mode
Handing the tablet to your kids? Kid Mode turns the app into their own space. They can read and practise, but nothing can be bought, no new book can be started, and only your parent PIN gets you back out.
Turn it on
- Open your menu (your initial, top right) and tap Enter Kid Mode.
- The first time, you make up a 4 digit parent PIN: type it, tap Next, type it again and tap Create PIN. No password is needed for this. One PIN covers the whole account.
- After that, Enter Kid Mode asks for your PIN each time.
One child or several
One child: there is nothing to choose. Kid Mode opens straight into their space.
Two or more: a Who’s here? screen comes up, and each child taps their own picture. To hand the tablet to a brother or sister, open the menu (now showing your child’s picture) and tap Switch profile. Swapping between your children does not need the PIN.
What your child sees
- Library: only their own books, ready to Read or Read aloud.
- My Practice: their practice packs, to start, carry on or look back at.
- Your turn: what you sent them from the Progress board, like a practice pack or the questions at the end of a story they have read. The number on the door says how many things are waiting, never a score.
Turn it off
Open the menu and tap Exit Kid Mode, then type your PIN. You are back in your own view, with every child and every setting.
Change your PIN
The PIN is not in Account. You change it from the PIN screen itself, whether you forgot it or just want a new one.
- Tap Enter Kid Mode or Exit Kid Mode so the PIN screen opens, then tap Forgot your PIN?.
- Type a new 4 digit code, tap Next, type it again and tap Save new PIN.
- Type your account password in Confirm it’s you and tap Continue. Your child does not know it, so only you can change the PIN.
