Practice packs

A practice pack is 15 questions on what your child is learning, with no story around them. It takes far less to make than a book, and the report afterwards shows where it went well and where it did not.

In Practice, a parent presses Create practice pack, opens a subject and ticks lessons from Grade 3 Math and Grade 3 Science, leaves Let Bix make it personal on, and creates the pack. It then waits on the Practice board.

How to make one

  1. Go to Practice and press Create practice pack.
  2. Your child’s grade and state lessons are already set. Open a subject to see its lessons and tick the ones you want, up to three in one pack. You can mix subjects, for example Grade 3 Math: multiplication word problems with Grade 3 Science: seasonal weather. A lesson marked Covered has already been taught in one of your books.
  3. Not sure? Pick 3 for me chooses for you, or tick a whole subject.
  4. Something school covers that is not on the list? Tap Write your own topic, say it in your own words, like Volcanoes, for our trip to Mount St. Helens, and press Check topic. Bix makes sure it is safe for kids and big enough for 15 different questions.
  5. Press Create practice pack. Bix writes it in a few minutes. You can close the window: the pack waits on the Practice board. Each pack uses one practice pack credit.

What your child does

In Kid Mode a child starts a practice pack, answers a question, gets a hint after a wrong try and gets it right, then matches, sorts and orders answers. Afterwards the parent opens the pack’s Report on the Practice board.
  1. In Kid Mode your child opens My Practice and presses Start on a pack, or Continue to pick up where they left off. You can also send a pack to them so it waits under Your turn.
  2. They tap an answer, then Check my answer. If it is not quite right there are no red crosses: Bix gives a hint, never the answer, and they have another go. Every answer comes with a short why.
  3. The 15 questions come in three stages of five: a warm up, build skills, then a challenge. They change shape as they go: choosing the right answer, matching, sorting things into groups and putting things in order.
  4. When it is done, they can look back at every answer.

The report

  1. Once a pack is finished, press Report beside it on the Practice board.
  2. The top shows four numbers: Completed, Right first time, Right in the end and Needed a retry.
  3. Read By stage first, then By topic (and By subject when the pack covered more than one).
  4. Under Question by question, each question shows what they answered, what they tried next, and why the answer is right. The ones they never got are already open.
  5. Under Keep learning, make another pack or a story on the same lesson.
