A dedication page

A message on the opening page, the way a real book has one.

What it is

Every book carries a dedication page. It names who the book was made for, and under that line it prints a short note in your own words. It is page two, the same on screen as in the copy you download and print. The note is optional. The page is always there.

What it is for

A note from you is what turns a file into a gift. It is the page a child goes back to, and the place for the thing you would rather write than say: read a page a night while I am away. Long after the story is familiar, those few lines are still the part that means something.

How to use it

  1. Write the note on the Look step of a new adventure, under the heading that begins A note for.
  2. Watch the counter under the box. It shows how much room is left, and a longer note holds the step until it fits.
  3. Start a new line before you sign off. Line breaks are kept, so a sign off stays on its own line.
  4. Tap Edit dedication note on the book's card in the library to write or change it after the book is made.
  5. Clear the box and tap Save note to take the note away. The line naming who the book was made for stays.

What we suggest

Write to them, not about them. Two or three lines and a sign off is plenty. If the book marks an occasion, say so: a child who reads it again at twelve will not remember what it was for, and this is the only page that can tell them.
