Kind of story and a real place

On the Scene step you choose what kind of story it is, how it is told and where it happens. Pick each one, or leave it to Bix.

For a Grade 3 Science book about the weather in each season, a parent picks Mystery, then Rich and Sensory, then types Hoh Rain and chooses the Hoh Rain Forest in Washington. All three story ideas come back as mysteries in the rain forest, and the finished book’s card shows the choices.

How to do it

  1. Start a new story and go to Scene, the third step along the top.
  2. Under Genre or Tone, pick the kind of story: Adventure, Mystery, Fantasy, Everyday Magic, Science Fiction, Fairy Tale, Comedy, Action, Realistic Fiction or Historical Adventure.
  3. Under Writing Style, pick how it is told: Classic Storyteller, Epic & Grand, Lyrical & Dreamy, Rich & Sensory, Silly & Zany, Chatty Narrator, Snappy & Fast, Spooky-Fun or Diary Style.
  4. Under Location, type a real city, town or landmark and choose it from the list. Or tap a made up world: Outer Space, Deep Ocean, Enchanted Forest, Castle Kingdom, Pirate Seas, Dinosaur Times, Robot City or Cloud Kingdom.
  5. Press Show Story Ideas. All three ideas follow what you picked, and each one shows its kind of story, writing style and place.
