Reading level and extras
Each child has their own reading level and their own mix of extras. You set them once on their profile, and every new book follows them.
How to do it
- Open Kids, choose your child, and scroll down to Tune their books.
- Reading level runs from 1 to 10 and sets the words: how long the sentences are and how hard the vocabulary is. It starts matched to their age and grade, and the label beside it names the level as you move it. Reset to auto takes it back.
- Problem-solving depth sets how tricky the puzzles and questions are: Gentle, Stretch (where every child starts) or Tricky, always pitched to their age.
- Under Story Style, switch on the extras you want between the pages: Did You Know? Trivia (a real fact about the place or the characters), Fun Facts (a fact from the subject the book teaches), Silly Poems (a short rhyme about what just happened), Quick Quiz (a question your child answers with a tap) and Brain Puzzles (a riddle or word puzzle made from words in the story).
- Switch on Workbook for practice questions at the end of each book, with a score report.
- Press Save Changes. Every new book for this child follows these settings. Books already on the shelf stay as they are.
The workbook at the end
When a book teaches a school lesson, the workbook asks about that lesson, using the story’s places and characters. When it does not, the questions are about the story.
Your child answers right in the book. A wrong answer can be tried again until it is right, and we keep the first answer, so the score shows what they knew on the first try.
To see how they did, open Progress and look under By storybook. A book’s page shows every question, the answer they gave, and which ones they missed the first time.
