The science is checked
Numbers and science claims are checked before the book is finished.
What it is
Before a learning book is finished, we read the whole draft once more against the subjects and topics it was built on, looking for a wrong number, a broken sum, a wrong unit, or a claim that contradicts the topic. What we find is corrected in place, on the screen and in the printed copy alike.
What it is for
Writing about the periodic table, we will now and then write something that sounds right and is not, and a parent who catches it after the reading has lost the thing they came for. The check is narrow on purpose. It leaves voice, playfulness, invented creatures and a friendly comparison alone, because a balloon standing in for an atom was never an error.
How to use it
- Tap New Adventure and choose the Curriculum Journey or STEM Focus card on Topic, the first step along the top. The check runs on those books on its own, and there is nothing to switch on.
- Name the standard, or write the topic in your own words, so the check has something to hold the story against.
- Read the finished book. Any corrections are already in it, and nothing is left on the page to say one was made.
- Tell us through Contact if something still reads wrong. One careful pass narrows what gets through, and we would rather hear about what did.
What we suggest
Read the first learning book on a new subject yourself before handing it over. The check is one careful reading of the draft, not a promise, and a subject you know well is where you would notice what it missed. After that, trust it further.
