No advertising, to anyone
No adverts in the product, and no purchase prompts in Kid Mode.
What it is
There is no advertising in BespokeTales. No adverts from other companies, no sponsored stories, and nothing about a child sold or shared for advertising or profiling. Kid Mode, the part of BespokeTales made for a child, has no purchase prompts either, not even one of ours.
What it is for
A product paid for by advertising ends up working for the advertiser. And a child shown something to want does not buy it, they ask you for it, which turns their enthusiasm into pressure on you. We would rather be paid by you, for books. Both halves of this are written into our terms, not held as a preference we could quietly drop.
How to use it
- Read Our promise to you, on the page where you start an account. It is there before you pay anything.
- Read the same commitments set out at length in our terms and our privacy notice.
- Turn on Kid Mode before you hand the tablet over. Buying is a parent's action, and it is refused while the lock is on.
- Tell us if you ever see anything in the product that reads as a pitch aimed at a child.
What we suggest
Ask this of any app your child uses, ours included: who pays for it, and what does it do with a child's attention. Where an advertiser pays, attention is the thing being sold. It is a short question, and it sorts most of a shelf quite quickly.
